Preservation of country's archaeology stressed

SAVAR, Sept 4 (BSS) Speakers at a seminar here urged the authorities concerned to preserve the country's glorious ancient history and traditional archaeological sites for the future generation. brThey underscored the need for unearthing the real ancient history and the archaeological treasures to make them familiar with the present as well as the future generation of the country.brThe speakers made the observation while speaking at the seminar on History of Ancient Bangla and Archaeology jointly organised by Bangladesh Itihash Somity and Jahangirnagar University (JU) Archaeology Department at the JU central auditorium recently.brJU vice-chancellor Mohammad Muniruzzaman inaugurated the seminar while Bangladesh Itihash Somity president Syed Anwar Hossain presided over the function.brThe day-long seminar was divided into three sessions.brA total of eight keynote papers were presented in the seminar.brBangla has a glorious history, and archaeological sites and resources found through various excavations, bear testimony to the golden and traditional ages of this region now known as Bangladesh, the speakers said.brProfessor Anwar laid stress on knowing various languages to unearth the hidden ancient history of Bangladesh. brWe should know at least three languages including Sangskrit and English to explore the ancient history and tradition of the territory, he said.brThe lack of knowledge about languages, he said, bars unearthing the real history of our motherland, the press release added.brJU Archaeology Department chairman Prof Ashit Boron Pal, member secretary of seminar Prof Md Mozammel Haque and Bangladesh Itihash Somity general secretary Prof Nurul Huda addressed, among others, the seminar.
