President accorded red carpet reception in Bolivia

SANTA CRUZ: Red carpet was rolled out at Viru Viru International Airport here as President Abdul Hamid arrived in the Bolivian business hub Santa Cruz at 6.15 am (local time) to attend the "Commemorative Summit of G77 and China".
Speaker of Lower House of Bolivian Parliament Eugenio Rojas Apaza received the President at the airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. A smartly turned out contingent of Bolivian Armed Forces, wearing traditional combat uniform, gave a guard of honour to the Bangladesh President at the airport, according to a news agency.
After the guard of honour, Council President of Santa Cruz Desiree Bravo presented a replica of the key to the City of Santa Cruz to President Hamid.
During his long journey to Bolivia from Bangladesh, the President made stopovers in Dubai and Madrid.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE),Mohammad Imran, received the President at Dubai International Airport and Bangladesh Ambassador to Spain Ikhtiar M Chowdhury at Madrid International Airport.
President Hamid will join the inaugural ceremony of the summit along with other heads of state and government of the member states of the Group of 77, including host Bolivian President Juan Evo Morales Ayma.
On June 15, President Hamid will address the summit focusing on various issues related to common interests of the platform of G77.
The G77, established in 1964, is the largest inter- governmental organization of developing countries within the UN system with a membership of 133. Bangladesh is a member of the G77.
Bolivia is the current chair of G77 and the organization commemorates its 50th anniversary this year. Food security,poverty reduction and creating sustainable ways to protect the earth are on the agenda of the summit.
After attending the summit, the President will leave Bolivia and reach New York on June 16.
President Hamid is expected to hold a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Secretariat in New York on June 19.
