President asks DCs to ensure people\\\'s welfare

President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday asked divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners (DCs) to be active in discharging their duties with service-oriented mentality avoiding bureaucratic complexities.
"You must remember that your main responsibility as employees of the republic is to engage yourselves in ensuring welfare of the people . . . your salary and allowances are paid from people's tax," he said while addressing the DCs at Bangabhban. The DCs met the President as part of the ongoing three-day DCs' conference.
Abdul Hamid said DCs in their respective districts are discharging duties as coordinator and supervisor of different activities of the government.
"I believe you will discharge your duties skillfully to ensure proper utilization of limited resources," he said.
The President gave a 10-point directive to the DCs in 10 sectors - food, agriculture, social safety net, education, health, land, ICT, conducting mobile courts, youth development and to play a stronger role in facing the effect of natural calamity and drug abuse.
He asked the DCs to continue their efforts for ensuring timely supply of fertilizers and seeds, irrigation facilities and disbursement of loans to the farmers to maintain country's achievement in food sufficiency.
About education, the President said, "The drop-out rate in primary schools has decreased at a mentionable percentage. Your supervision can play a special role to maintain it and to flourish human quality of the students."
On ICT, Abdul Hamid said the government is pledge-bound to reach ICT services to the grassroots. "You have to play a pivotal role in building Digital Bangladesh," he told the divisional commissioners and DCs.
Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan made the welcome speech while Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj Md Anisur Rahman Miah gave the vote of thanks.
Secretaries to the President, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners were present at the conference, a BSS report said.
