President asks Myanmar to act on illegal drugs, Rohingya issue

President Md Abdul Hamid has told Myanmar to take measures to stop Rohingyas and illegal drugs from entering Bangladesh’s borders.
Currently on a visit to China, he had a meeting with Myanmar President U Thein Sein at a guesthouse in Beijing on Sunday.
“Rohingya infiltration and drug trafficking at the border are affecting law and order as well as the socio-economic scenario at Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban,” he said, offering Dhaka’s full support in fighting the problem.
The president’s press secretary briefed reporters after the meeting.
Law enforcers say there was an influx of banned drug ‘Yaba’ into Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban’s border areas from Myanmar. There are allegations that influential politicians are involved in the flourishing trade.
Rohingya Muslims facing persecution at home have been crossing over to Bangladesh for two decades now. Myanmar has not responded to Dhaka’s calls to take them back, according to a news agency.
