President asks police to be more responsible in probing cases

President M Zillur Rahman Thursday asked police to play a more responsible role in carrying out investigation with professionalism and neutrality for establishing rule of law in the society, reports BSS.
"Establishing rule of law depends largely on neutral and objective investigation of police," the President said while addressing a gathering of top ranking police officers at Bangabhaban marking 'Police Week-2012'.
President Rahman also urged the police personnel to be cautious so that no one is harassed without any reason. "Remember that service to people is the ideal of the police," he said.
He asked the police officers to behave friendly with people at any kind of situation as people's cooperation is very important in improving the law and order situation. "Prove yourself as the friend of people by your work," he said.
President M Zillur Rahman said law and order situation has improved a lot despite lesser number of police against necessity in a densely populated country like Bangladesh.
"Though the situation has improved, more scopes are there to make further improvement," the President observed.
The President said the role of police and elite force RAB in curbing militancy alongside improving the law and order situation is highly appreciable.
Expressing his satisfaction over joining of meritorious and talented young persons in the police force, the President laid emphasis on building a patriotic and skilled law enforcing agency suitable for the 21st century through providing proper training.
The President said the Bangladesh Police have glorified the image of Bangladesh abroad by their merit, competence and discipline through participating in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in different countries.
"I hope the number of participation in UN Peacekeeping Mission will increase in future to further brighten the country's image in the international arena," he added.
Referring to the measures taken by the government for the development of police force, the President expressed the hope that the force would be more dynamic and time-befitting because of the new steps.
The President congratulated those members of the police who have received the prestigious 'Bangladesh Police Award' and 'President Award' for their contribution to the service of the people and the country.
M Zillur Rahman also recalled with respect the memories of those police personnel who laid down their lives while discharging their duties.
Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun, State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police were present on the occasion.
Secretaries concerned to the President's Office were also present.
