DSCC holds condolence meeting

President Abdul Hamid attended on Tuesday a milad mahfil seeking salvation of the departed soul of Syed Ashraful Islam, the former Awami League (AL) general secretary and public administration minister, report agencies.
The programme, organised by family members, was held on the premises of Officers' Club in the city in the afternoon.
Syed Ashraf died of lung cancer at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok on Thursday at the age of 67.
His body was brought back home on Saturday evening. He was laid to rest at Banani Graveyard on Sunday following three namaz-e-janazas.
AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, Education Minister Dipu Moni, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, senior AL leaders and family members were present at the programme. Secretaries to Bangabhaban were also present.
Meanwhile, speakers at a citizen condolence meeting urged on Tuesday all politicians to follow the ideology of deceased former ruling party leader Syed Asharaful Islam as he was a very popular leader to people.
The appeal came at the meeting held at Mayor Mohammad Hanif Auditorium in city with Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon in the chair.
Terming Syed Ashraf who was also a Awami League presidium member and former Public Administration minister as loyal to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the DSCC Mayor said, "There are very few leaders like him as he had no pride while he was one of the top leader of the ruling Awami League."
