President awarded for hishumanitarian services

President M Zillur Rahman on Thursday received the medal of Global Leader of Humanitarian Service as recognition of his life-long contribution to the cause of humanity, reports UNB. Dr Wing Kun Tam, International President of Lions Club International, formally conferred the medal on the President at Bangabhaban. Past International Director AP Singh, International Director Sheikh Kabir Hossain, Councillors Chairperson AKM Rezaul Haque, Past International Director Moslem Ali Khan and International Director Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, among others were present. During the meeting the President thanked the Lions Club International for its contributions to the human services in the country's socioeconomic development especially establishing eye-camps, developing healthcare, education and initiating relief and rehabilitation activities. President M Zillur Rahman urged the delegation to expand their activities across Bangladesh to address the socioeconomic needs of the rural areas. Dr Tam has assured the President of further expanding their activities in Bangladesh. He noted that the Lions Club has already distributed some 5 lakh saplings in the country for plantation and another 5 lakh saplings will be distributed soon. Secretaries to the President's Office were also present on the occasion.
