President for action to stop harassment of immigrants

President Zillur Rahman urged the Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment for immediate special action to stop harassment of the Bangladeshis going abroad for employment.
He said this Friday at a function in the city's the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on the occasion of International Immigrants Day, reports UNB
"Bangladeshi job seekers abroad fall victim to harassment and various deceits and are often compelled to lead miserable lives by losing everything," he said.
Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry organised the function with its Minister Engr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in the chair.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Post and Telecommunication Minister Razi Uddin Ahmed Razu, among others, attended at the function.
President Zillur Rahman expressed his hope that besides the government, different institutions and individuals who are involved with the sector should play a responsible role to protect the interests of the overseas job seekers.
He laid emphasis on taking proper initiatives to develop skills of the people wishing to go abroad amid increasing scope in the international labour market. "Professional skill, knowledge of language, and a clear idea about the customs and rules of foreign countries could play an important role," he added.
The President said that the Prime Minister had already taken the initiative to set up an 'Expatriate Bank' for the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates.
He said, "I firmly believe the expatriate workers will work as an auxiliary force to implement the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a Bangladesh free from hunger and poverty."
The present government was firmly committed to building up skilled manpower through proper development of human resources, he said. "Foreign labour market plays an important role in creating employment for our increasing population and also helps to combat the negative impact of climate change."
The President said that the government is working tirelessly to ensure the welfare of the expatriates and taking steps to sign new agreements with various countries in this regard.
