President for ensuring people's right to information

President Zillur Rahman Wednesday emphasized on ensuring people's right to getting information in line with the spirit of constitution and simultaneously enhancing accountability and transparency in all government and non-government institutions by the role of the newly formed Information Commission, reports UNB.
"I think the Information to Right Act and the Information Commission are one of the important Acts and Commissions formulated in our country after the independence," he said.
The President made the remarks when newly appointed Chief Information Commissioner M Azizur Rahman and Information Commissioners M Abu Taher and Dr Sadeka Halim met him at Bangabhaban.
The President hoped that people's right to information would be ensured by the Information Commission while transparency and accountability of the government and non-government institutions would also increase.
During the meeting, the President reminded that people are the owners of all powers of the republic and "it is our responsibility to ensure people's right to getting information with a view to empowering them."
He expressed the belief that the Information Commission will be able to play a responsible role in fulfilling the people's hopes and aspirations.
Welcoming the Chief Information Commissioner and other Information Commissioners at the Bangabhaban, the President assured them of his all-out support for overall success of the commission.
Secretary of the President's Office Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Military Secretary to the President Major General Md Ehtesham Ul Haque and President's Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present during the meeting.
