President for fostering bilateral relations with Cuba

President Iajuddin Ahmed Wednesday hoped that bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Cuba would grow into a new dimension in the days to come, reports BSS.brDr Iajuddin Ahmed made the remarks while newly appointed Ambassador of Cuba to Bangladesh Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos presented his credentials to him at Bangabhaban. brWelcoming the new envoy, the President expressed his happiness and satisfaction at the existing friendly relations between the two countries. brProf Iajuddin hoped that the relations between the two countries would reach a new height of excellence during his tenure to Bangladesh. brHe said that the two countries hold identical views on a number of international issues and supported each other. brCuba is a strong advocate of South-South cooperation and has always voiced concerns at the diminishing flow of technical and financial resources from the developed north to the developing south, Prof Iajuddin said. brThe President appraised the envoy that the present government was committed to return to a sustainable democracy through institutional reforms and holding free, fair and credible elections by end of the year.brHe also said Bangladesh was a land of communal harmony where people from all cast and creeds lived together peacefully. brThe Ambassador of Cuba, based in New Delhi, sought the President's cooperation and that of the government in discharging his duties during his tenure. brThe envoy expressed his satisfaction over the present government's various reform programmes and hoped that the next general elections would be held according to the declared election roadmap. brSecretary of the President's Office Md Sirajul Islam, Foreign Secretary Touhid Hussain, Military Secretary to the President Major Gen Mohammad Ruhul Amin and the President's Press Secretary Abdul Awal Hawlader were also present on the occasion.
