Thursday, 12 June 2008

President Iajuddin Ahmed Wednesday underscored the need for frequent exchange of business and official delegations and holding trade fairs to boost bilateral trade and economic relations between Bangladesh and Ghana, reports UNB.

He made the suggestion when newly appointed non-residential Ambassador of Ghana to Bangladesh John Bentum-Williams presented his credentials to him at Bangabhaban.

Welcoming the new envoy, the president said Bangladesh attaches great importance to her relations with Ghana as the two countries hold almost similar views on different international issues and have been working together at various international fora, including the UN bodies.

He also saw huge potential of developing bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed the hope that the relations between the two countries would grow further in the days to come.

President Iajuddin requested the envoy to put his efforts in increasing cooperation between Dhaka and Accra and boosting the existing volume of trade between the two countries.

"The people of Ghana could be benefited by using Bangladeshi goods, particularly readymade garments, melamine and pharmaceutical products," he said.

The new Ambassador of Ghana expressed his satisfaction over the present relations between Dhaka and Accra and hoped that the ties would be strengthened further.

Military Secretary to the President Mohd Aminul Karim, Secretary of President's Office Md Sirajul Islam, Foreign Secretary Touhid Hosain and President's Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present.

Earlier, on his arrival at Bangabhaban, a smart contingent of President's Guard Regiment gave the Ghanaian ambassador a guard of honour.
