President for improvement of higher education quality

RAJSHAHI, Jan 18 (UNB): President Abdul Hamid on Sunday laid emphasis on improvement of quality of higher education as well as bolstering the knowledge of information and communication technology (ICT) among the country's young generation to remain competitive at the global stage.
"In the upbringing of our young generation, we have to make sure that they attain the international standard in the knowledge of information technology apart from traditional education so that they can win in global competitions because education is a pre-requisiteto remain in the race," he said.
The President said this while addressing the 9th convocation of Rajshahi University (RU) held on its campus.
A total of 4,771 students received certificates at the convocation.
Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, said, "We'll have to assemble all the branches of knowledge as well as modern curricula in the institutions of higher studies. Teachers, researchers and students have to follow that. We have to ensure that nobody can raise question about the standard of education."
Mentioning that there is an inextricable link between education and research, Mr Hamid said new knowledge has been created through research works which play an important role in fulfilling the existing demand of society. The people concerned have to know the types of research works being conducted in other countries of the world.
RU vice chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin and pro-vice chancellor Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan spoke on the occasion while vice chancellor of Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia Prof Talat Ahmad delivered the convocation speech.
Earlier, Mr Hamid inaugurated the newly constructed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall on the university campus.
