Thursday, 29 December 2011

President Zillur Rahman Wednesday emphasised on increasing export of Bangladeshi products to Ukraine with a view to reducing the trade deficit between the two countries, reports UNB. The President made the remark while newly appointed Ukrainian Ambassador to Bangladesh Oleksandr D. Shevchenko presented his credentials to him at Bangabhaban. Ukraine presently imports Bangladeshi products like fish, leather, RMG, textiles, edible oil, vegetables, pharmaceuticals and tobacco while Bangladesh imports minerals, chemical products, machineries, appliances and electrical equipments from Ukraine. Welcoming the new ambassador, President Zillur Rahman recalled the contribution of Ukraine, a former member of USSR, during the country' s independence war in 1971. Ambassador Shevchenko told the President that he would do his best to promote Bangladeshi products in the Ukrainian market. Secretary to the President's office M Safiul Alam, Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes, Military Secretary to the President Maj Gen Kazi Fakhrudin Ahmed and Press Secretary AKM Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan were present. Earlier, the new Ambassador was given a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the President's Guard Regiment at Bangabhaban premises.
