President for manufacturing cell phone sets locally

President Zillur Rahman Tuesday said young engineers and IT experts of the country could play vital role in manufacturing both hardware and software of cell phones locally for saving huge amount of hard earned foreign exchange, reports BSS.
"I hope, IT entrepreneurs and other businessmen will think about it considering the growing demand of the cell phone market," he said while inaugurating the 3rd Dhaka International Telecom Fair-2009, organised by Bangladesh Mobile Phone Businessmen Association (BMBA) at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu and former president of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) Salman F Rahman spoke as special guests while BMBA President Eng M Nazimuddin Jitu was in the chair.
The President said the country's huge human resources needed to be included in the vast arena of communication and information technology through educating them with IT knowledge.
"We have to utilise the immense potentials of the IT for easing the path of our development and prosperity," he said.
Referring to the declaration of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to make 'digital Bangladesh' by 2021, the President said "I firmly believe that we will be able to endow an IT-based happy and prosperous Bangladesh to the people on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of our independence."
He said nowadays mobile phone had been turned into a daily necessity which tremendously expedites the decision making and development process as well as saves money, labour and time.
"However, we have seen that a vested quarter is trying to create disorder in the society by misusing the mobile phone, which is not acceptable at all for the country and the nation," he said.
President Zillur Rahman urged all concerned to take necessary measures soon to check all kind of misuse of mobile phone.
He further said, "I believe mobile phone companies and traders will expand their welfare activities in the interest of the people to respect their liability to the country and the nation."
Posts and telecommunications Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu said that the present government was firmly committed to expanding information technology across the country by making available the new technology in the hands of the public.
The minister said they would introduce flat rate for local and inter-district T&T phone calls.
"We are trying to install optical fiber to make our telecommunication system modern in a bid to expand e-governance allover the country," he said adding "we have also a plan to provide computer training to all school and college students of the country free of cost."
He also urged the businessmen to take initiative as they could provide laptop computers at a cheaper price.
Later, the President distributed BMBA awards to seven phone companies and individuals for their outstanding contributions to the telecom sector.
A total 80 telecom companies are displaying their products at 72 stalls and eight pavilions on the fair premises.
