President hopeful of flawless voter list

The authorities concerned will be able to prepare a flawless voter list as the next national election will be held in accordance with the Election Commission's (EC's) roadmap.
President Iajuddin Ahmed expressed the hope while visiting voter registration work at Savar University College in Savar municipality Wednesday, reports UNB.
"I hope that the authorities concerned with the help of all will be able to implement the voter registration and national identity (ID) card project. A significant task will be completed in our national life with the implementation of this project", Iajuddin said.
The President, who completed his constitutional tenure Wednesday and expected to stay in office until the election of his successor, expressed his satisfaction over the voter registration work as he visited registration booths and witnessed photographers taking snap shots of voters and the biometrics system. He also talked to the voters.
He thanked the EC, Bangladesh Army and all others related with the gigantic voter registration project.
He called upon all to come forward to spontaneously enroll their names in the voter list and cooperate in preparing the national ID cards in the interest of the nation.
"The government will extend all-out cooperation for the welfare of the nation", he added.
Earlier, the President was apprised of the process of voter registration work.
On his arrival at the college premises, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda, GOC of the Ninth Infantry Division Ashabuddin and Project Director of the voter list preparation with photographs and national ID card Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury received the President.
Military Secretary to the President M Aminul Karim, President's Secretary M Sirajul Islam, Press Secretary Abdul Awal Hawlader, the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner, Dhaka Range DIG and concerned senior civil and military officials were present.
Replying to a volley of questions of journalists, the CEC said the government might relax or lift the ban on indoor politics in mid-September.
"The government will take a decision about talks with the political parties, including the two major ones, in due time", the CEC added.
About 59,839 voters, out of 1,18,349, enrolled their names in the voter list through 53 centres in the current voter registration programme that began on August 23.
