President hosts reception at Bangabhaban

President M Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom on Tuesday hosted a reception at Bangabhaban on the occasion of the country's 44th Victory Day. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the function held at the lawn of the presidential palace in the evening. Valiant freedom fighters and family members of Birshreshtha gallantry awardees attended the Victory Day reception. Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, opposition leader Raushan Ershad, PM's special envoy HM Ershad, the Chief Justice, cabinet members, PM’s advisers, state ministers, diplomats, senior lawyers, Supreme Court judges, election commissioners, the chiefs of three services, members of parliament, senior political leaders, senior civil and military officers, academics, business community leaders, senior journalists, artistes and distinguished citizens also joined the function. Members of National Cadet Corp of Sri Lanka, India and the Maldives also attended the reception. President Hamid and Prime Minister Hasina jointly cut a cake on the occasion. The President and the Prime Minister together exchanged greetings with war-wounded freedom fighters and other guests at the function, and assured the freedom fighters of all-out government support for their welfare, according to a news agency.
