President M Zillur Rahman Sunday said being able to contribute the highest number of troops to UN peacekeeping missions is an international recognition and befitting evaluation of the performance of Bangladesh Army, reports BSS.
"It's a matter of pride for the entire nation," he said while speaking at a meeting of formation commanders of Bangladesh Army at the Dhaka Cantonment.
The President, who is the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces said that the main responsibility of the army is to protect independence and sovereignty of the country. Apart from the main task, their engagements in facing disasters are highly appreciated by the disaster-affected people, he added.
The President said as the senior officers of the force, additional responsibilities of the commanders are to prepare the army for the present and future centuries.
Zillur Rahman observed that the leadership ability of the commanders depends on how they formulate future vision and implement these with their acquired knowledge.
He expressed his firm belief that the commanders would be successful in providing basic guideline and dynamic leadership to the Army.
The President said the present government has taken various programmes for the development of the armed forces despite constraint of resources.
Zillur Rahman assured his allout cooperation towards the ongoing modernisation process of the Bangladesh Army.
Chief of Army Staff General M Abdul Mubeen also spoke on the occasion while Defence Adviser to the Prime Minister Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddiqui was present.
