President off to China

President Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for China on Thursday night to attend the 2014 APEC CEO Summit slated for November 9-10 in Beijing. The President departed for Beijing at 11:55 pm on a regular flight of Singapore Airlines. He will attend CEO Summit on the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Cabinet Secretary, dean of the diplomatic corps, Charge d’ Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Qu Guangzhou, chiefs of the three services and high civil and military officials concerned were present at the airport to see him off. President Abdul Hamid will deliver a speech on Nov 9 at the CEO Summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which runs alongside the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. The President is expected to address a dialogue with several non-APEC Asian countries on ‘Strengthening Connectivity Partnership’, which will take place on Nov 8. President of China Xi Jinping will attend the dialogue. President Hamid is also scheduled to have bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Myanmar President Thein Sein on the margins of the Summit. The President will go to Singapore from China on Nov 11 for medical treatment on his way back home, according to BSS.
