President, PM call for awareness against population increase

President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Saturday called upon all concerned to play their roles in creation of awareness about the consequence of population increase, reports BSS.
In separate messages on the eve of World Population Day, they wished success of all programmes of the day.
President Zillur Rahman, in his message, said a planned population is an imperative in populous Bangladesh.
"A planned and limited population plays an important role in development of a country," he said and expressed the belief that an educated population and skilled manpower can take Bangladesh to the highest level of development.
The President stressed the need for reaching family planning services to every couple in all areas of the country.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said counselling and services would have to be strengthened among the backward people for further progress of the success attained in population control.
The trend of giving birth to children is more among the poor couples for lack of awareness and services, she added.
The Prime Minister said the present government has taken an initiative to ensure health services for the poor people through one community clinic for every 6,000 people.
Besides, the field workers of family planning department are organising 30,000 satellite clinics every month and providing health services to mothers and children from door to door.
She urged the private organisations, mass media and conscious individuals to come forward in this field alongside the government.
