President, PM for expansion of technical education

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Tuesday called for further expansion of technical and vocational education for the country's development and prosperity, reports BSS.
In separate messages on the eve of 'Technical and Vocational Education Week 2014,' they expressed the hope that observance of the week from 18 to 24 June would create awareness among the people about importance of technical education.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said there is no alternative to training the people to enhance knowledge and efficiency to make the country economically self-reliant.
Institutions related to technical and vocational education and training can play an important role in this regard, he added.
The government has given utmost importance to expansion of technical and vocational education, the President said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, greeted all concerned on the occasion of 'Technical and Vocational Education Week 2014.'
She said the theme of the week this year 'Technical and Vocational Education in Facing Challenges of 21st Century' is time befitting.
The PM said the government is implementing extensive programmes for human resource development in the country through technical and vocational education.
She said the present government is working relentlessly to build a digital Bangladesh to face the challenges of 21st century.
The government has formed the national education policy to this end, she added.
The PM said all steps have been taken to increase enrolment in technical and vocational education to 20 per cent by 2020.
