President, PM for mass awareness about breastfeeding

Wednesday, 6 August 2014

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina called Tuesday for creating mass awareness about breastfeeding children and increasing the rate of feeding homemade supplements instead of milk powder and tinned baby food, reports BSS.
They made the call in separate messages on the occasion of the World Breastfeeding Week-2014 being observed from August 1 to 7.
The theme of this year's breastfeeding week is 'Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal for Life."
In his message, President Abdul Hamid greeted the newborns, their parents and all others involved in breastfeeding campaigns.
He said there is no alternative to breastfeeding for a newborn's good health, nutrition and immunity.
Extensive awareness would have to be created about the harmfulness of milk powder and tinned baby food along with campaigning for breastfeeding, he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said like breastfeeding, it is also a right of a child to grow up consuming homemade supplements.
The present government has taken extensive programmes for development of maternal and child nutrition, she added.
