Sunday, 15 June 2014

The President and the Prime Minister have offered condolences over the death of eminent scholar Prof Sardar Fazlul Karim. Former Dhaka University (DU) teacher Karim passed away early on Sunday at a hospital in Dhaka due to old age complications. In a message, President Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh has lost a scholar and a philosopher in Karim's death. He offered his sympathy to the bereaved family. Karim, a noted philosopher and academic, joined the DU in 1946, at the age of 21. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a separate message, said she was 'deeply saddened' to learn of his death. She said Prof Karim had devoted his life to ‘build a knowledge-based society’. His books would remain as source of knowledge and show the nation the path of truth and justice, she said. Hasina said Karim's death left a vacuum which cannot be easily filled. Meanwhile, the Speaker, deputy speaker and chief whip have also offered their condolences in separate messages. They have prayed for the eternal peace of Karim's soul, according to bdnews24.com.
