Tuesday, 10 November 2009

President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina paid Monday rich tributes to Shaheed Noor Hossain, a Jubo League leader, who was killed in the police firing during the anti-autocracy movement in Dhaka on November 10, 1987, reports BSS.
In a message on the eve of the Noor Hossain Day, the President said Noor Hossain protested against autocracy on this day in 1987 writing a slogan "Let democracy be freed, autocracy exterminated" on his chest and back.
"The fearless fighter, who was in the forefront of a procession, shed his blood for building a non-communal, progressive and democratic Bangladesh and his blood did not go in vain. Democracy was restored in continuation of his martyrdom," he said.
The President said, "I firmly believe that the country's democracy will not be hindered as long as a courageous man like Noor Hossain will remain alive."
He called upon the countrymen to work unitedly to give the hard-earned democracy an institutional shape.
The President prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Noor Hossain and wished success of all programmes taken on the occasion of the day.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message termed the November 10 as an unforgettable day for the movement of restoration of democracy in Bangladesh, saying that on that day, the streets of Dhaka were stained with blood of Jubo League leader Noor Hossain.
