President, PM urge people to cooperate with enumerators

The fifth Population and Housing Census is beginning across the country tomorrow (Tuesday) midnight to compile data on population, household and vocation of the people, reports UNB.
President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina in separate messages on the eve of population census Sunday called upon the nation to cooperate with the enumerators who will go from door to door from March 15 to 19. They said the census is aimed at focusing on accurate enumeration of the household, families, people and their occupation. The last census held in 2001 showed the country's population at 130.52 million reflecting an increase by about 19.10 million in ten years. The President in his message said that it is essential to know proper statistics about population for formulating country's overall development plan. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed the need for population and housing census. It is essential for meeting the basic needs of the people and improving the standard of their living. Information of actual population is needed for effective planning for providing them best services and facing the challenges and socio-economic development of the country, she added.
