President representing AL, not people: BNP

BNP senior leader Rafiqul Islam Miah on Monday alleged that President Abdul Hamid through his remarks about the January 5 polls in his recent meeting with UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon has proved that he is representing only Awami League (AL) instead of the country’s people. “The President has represented Awami League, not the country’s people, in the United Nations as he told its secretary general that the people of Bangladesh have accepted the January 5 election. His remark has proved that the President’s existence ends up in Awami League,” he said. Rafiqul, also a BNP standing committee member, was addressing a roundtable titled ‘Historical Palashi Tragedy: Today’s Bangladesh’ arranged by Jatiyatabadi Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolon at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city, according to a news agency.
