President\\\'s office seeks list of presidents

Tuesday, 27 May 2014

The president's office has written to the Cabinet Division for a list of former Bangladesh presidents and their tenures to 'update the Bangabhaban website', officials say. The move comes two months after BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique rahman claimed party's founder Ziaur Rahman was the first president. A Bangabhaban official, talking about the letter, said that the Bangabhaban does not have a list of former presidents and details of their tenure. The letter says a list detailing their biographies and assumption of office was necessary ‘for conserving a real list, using it if needed, and uploading it on the Bangabhaban website’. About seeking a list, Senior Secretary Sheikh Altaf Ali said they needed it to update the Bangabhaban website and a book, 'Shoto Bochhorer Itihash' (history of hundred years). 'The Cabinet prepares such lists and so we sought a list with the correct names and spellings,' he said. At present, the Bangabhaban website lists 16 presidents but does not mention their tenures. BNP founder Ziaur Rahman is seventh on the list, according to bdnews24.com.
