Prevent launch accident
Monday, 5 May 2014
Storms lash our country during the summer and we see many heart-wrenching launch accidents which cause loss of lives and property. Recently, a launch capsized in Golachipa River in Patuakhali resulting in eight deaths and missing of more than 50 people. Now, the weather forecast technology has improved much. If we can utilise it to the maximum, we can avoid such occurrences. The government should come forward and set up modern, latest weather forecast centres to forecast storms more accurately.
We often see the near and dear ones of the launch accident victims crying which is indeed sad. A person's and his family's dreams shatter with his unexpected death in such a accident. After every launch disaster, a committee is formed but we never come to know about their recommendations to avert such incidents or who were the guilty people for such mishap. Ours is a riverine country that is blessed with a vast waterway system. It is the cheapest mode of transport. It is high time we made our waterway as safe as possible.
