Preventing deaths from lightning
Tuesday, 15 May 2018
THE number of deaths in our country from thunder and lightning strikes has been rising alarmingly. Reports published in newspapers and aired on television channels bear ample testimony to the fact. According to a leading Bangla daily, 112 persons in the last 10 days died from lightning strikes. I think ignorance or lack of knowledge of people about these two acts of nature is mainly accountable for these unfortunate accidents. We must educate common people about the dangers of polluting the environment and prompting natural disasters of this kind to occur. We chop trees to make buildings that reduce flow of oxygen in our surroundings. It should be noted that shortage of oxygen at that place creates problems for every one of the area. The government should work out a conceptually sound plan aimed at reducing the possibilities of thunder and lightning and thereby bring down the number of casualties. I would like to request the authorities concerned to take immediate steps in this regard.
