Price-hike of essentials continued

Prices of almost all essentials including fish, sugar and local onion, witnessed upward trend but edible oil decreased in the city's retail markets during the last one week.
Market sources said the 10-hour downpour of Monday night triggered the upward trend as supply of the essentials was disrupted severely in the week.
Hilsha observed an upward trend in the city's retail market. A medium-sized hilsha was selling between the range of Tk 1600-Tk 2000 against the previous price at Tk 1000 a pair.
Shrimp was selling at Tk 500- Tk 600 per kg which was at Tk 400- Tk 500 a week ago, market sources said.
Different sweet water fishes also witnessed a trend of upward though it was the season of fishes.
Sweet water fishes such as ruhi was selling at Tk 200-Tk 250, katla Tk 250 per kg and poya Tk 200-Tk 250 per kg, pangas Tk 100 - Tk 120 per kg. Other local fishes including puti, tengra, magur were selling at prices between Tk 250 to Tk 300 per kg on an average.
Besides, prices of potato increased and were selling at Tk 25 against its previous price Tk 24 per kg.
Prices of ginger and garlic marked rise at the retail level. The local and imported Chinese varieties were selling at Tk 80 against the previous price Tk 40-Tk 50 per kg. Similarly garlic was selling at Tk 70 per kg which was Tk 50-Tk 65 per kg the previous week.
According to retail traders in the city's different rice markets, prices of fine varieties witnessed the same trend though rice worth of nearly Tk 8.0 million was perished only in Mohammadpur Krishi Market.
'Minicate' was selling at Tk 30-Tk 32 while 'Nazirshail' was selling at Tk 34- Tk 36 against per kg on an average last week.
On the other hand coarse varieties of rice including BR-28 were selling at Tk 22-Tk 24 per kg, Pari Tk 23 and Swarna Tk 22- Tk 24 per kg on an average at the city's retail level.
Imported Indian onion was selling at Tk 24- Tk 26 per kg. But a kilo of local onion was selling at Tk 40 against the earlier price of Tk 38 per kg.
