Price of betel leaf rises in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ Mar 30: The price of betel leaf, a traditional commodity widely consumed in the country, shot up abnormally in the district recently.
A bundle of 80 pieces of betel leaves (big size) was being sold at Tk 240-Tk 250, from Tk 100-Tk 120 a week ago, while a medium-size bundle was selling at Tk 130- Tk 140.
A bundle of small-size betel leaves (80 pieces) was selling at Tk 60-Tk 65 which was at Tk 25-Tk 30 a few weeks back, retailers at local markets said.
Bebik Roy, a betel leaf trader at Gopalganj town told The FE that the price of the chewing leaf had increased in the district due mainly to the inadequate supply.
