Price of LP gas registers upward trend in S'ganj

Wednesday, 15 August 2007

SIRAJGANJ, Aug 14: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders has increased by 15 per cent to 20 per cent within two weeks in the locals market of nine upazilas in Sirajganj district, sources said.
Dealers alleged that shortage of supply and increase in the transportation cost are responsible for gas price hike. At present, Jamuna is being sold at Tk 840, Bashundhara at Tk 850 against Tk 740 and Tk 760 respectively per 12.5-kg cylinder of LP gas in the district last month.
Sirajganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Anisur Rahman said it was decided at a recent meeting with local dealers and retailers of LP gas to sell per cylinder at 5.0 per cent to 10 per cent higher than the factory price considering the increase of transportation cost. But they are now violating the decision.
Legal action would be taken against the corrupt dealers and retailers violating the agreement, he added.
The dealers and retailers of the district, on the other hand, claimed that supply of LPG cylinder is less than 30 per cent for the district markets.
