RAJSHAHI, Nov 16: The price of LPG in Rajshahi has increased unusually in the last few months.
The consumers complained, the price of one LPG cylinder of private companies which used to be sold at taka 790 - 850 just a few months ago was now being sold at taka 1,130 though the government had fixed the price at taka 630 for each cylinder.
The sources said the demand in Rajshahi was about 30 thousand cylinders per month but the government only supplied 2 to 3 thousand cylinders. And the rest was met by private companies. It is known that the government through 18 dealers supplies only two to three thousand cylinders among the consumers. But the private companies supply approximately 28 thousand cylinders through 30 dealers.
This correspondent came to know that the private companies with the help of some dealers sell the government LPG cylinders in the black market by changing the name.
Though the government did not increase the price of state owned BPC gas cylinders it is still being sold at a high price. The price of other private gas cylinders: Jamuna gas at taka 1,000, Clean heat gas at taka 1,130 and Jamuna post treck at taka 1,100. The members of BPC and senior officials of police are allegedly pretending not to see it.
It is learnt, the district administration does not have any data about how many state owned gas cylinders are being supplied to Rajshahi.
