Prices and government's role

Tuesday, 3 July 2007

THERE is no excuse that appropriate laws are not there to apply against syndicates. If laws are not there, then the same can be promulgated under ordinances and applied. So, where is the difficulty ? Activities of toll collectors raise prices. But such activities can surely be brought to an end by effective law enforcement. What is the problem in keeping watch over importers so that they feel obliged to pass on the benefits of duty reduction on their imported goods to consumers ?
The relevant advisers of the caretaker government made statements that they intended to play a role in price normalisation. But people are yet to see any concrete steps in that direction.
