Prices decline facing withdrawals

Friday, 14 August 2009

Buyers were far less active this week particularly the blenders that were selective and there was only a limited interest from the loose tea buyers. As a result, prices declined for all varieties, particularly the plainer types, which sometimes shed up to Tk 10 per kg with some withdrawals. A small amount of tea was bought on account of CIS and Pakistan. Dust grades met with much less demand at easier rates with fair withdrawals.
CTC leaf: 24,669 packages and 80 packages of old season on offer met with much less demand at progressively easier rates. There were also fair withdrawals.
Brokens: Good liquoring brokens met with a fairly good demand but at easier rates and these sold between Tk 139 and Tk 142. The remainder met with fair demand but declined by a larger margin.
Fannings: Good liquoring fannings met with a fair demand but prices declined by about Tk 5.0 to Tk 8.0 and sometimes more for plainer varieties. There was also fair withdrawal in this category. The best ranged between Tk 139 and Tk 142.
CTC dust: 4,250 packages on offer met with a restricted demand at lower rates with fair withdrawals. Better liquoring varieties eased by Tk 8.0 to Tk 10 and sometimes more with a little withdrawal. Medium and plainer varieties eased further with more withdrawals. Both blenders and loose tea buyers were very selective.
