Prices of beef, egg, vegetables increase in city markets

Prices of beef, egg, vegetables increased in the city's retail markets in the last week while prices of poultry birds, sugar and non-brand edible oil declined, traders said Friday.
Besides, prices of other essential commodities, including rice and brand edible oil remained unchanged in the city's retail market over past one week, according to the different market sources.
Market sources said price of beef increased by Tk 20 per kg and retailers were selling a kg of beef at Tk 240 against its previous rate of Tk 220 and mutton between Tk 280-Tk350 per kg.
Traders said price of eggs increased by Tk 2.0 per dozen at retail level but prices of broiler declined by Tk 5-Tk10 per kg. According to the retailers, during the same period, per dozen eggs (chicken) were being sold at Tk78. Poultry birds were selling between Tk 95 -Tk 110 per kg.
Besides, prices of a number of vegetables have increased by Tk 4 to Tk 6 per kg in the city's local market.
Traders in the city's retail markets said a section of businessmen increased the price of early winter vegetables by taking advantage of scanty supply.
Prices of cucumber jumped by about Tk 20 and were being sold at Tk 60 per kg against its previous rate of Tk 40. Prices of tomato increased by Tk 35 at retail level and a kg of good quality tomato was being sold at Tk 120 whereas the rate was between Tk 80 and Tk 90 a day before.
According to the traders, prices of per kg ladies' finger Tk 32, brinjal Tk 40, bean Tk 80 and bitter gourd were selling at Tk 32-Tk 34 during the last week. Carrot was being sold at Tk 60 per kg whereas the price was between Tk 36-Tk 40 a day before.
But, price of green chilli recorded an upward trend at the city's retail markets and a kg of green chilli was selling Tk 80 per kg which was selling between Tk 50 and Tk 60 per kg one week ago.
Potato was selling at Tk 16-Tk18 per kg remaining unchanged from its prices a week ago.
Prices of sugar declined by Tk 2 per kg during the last one week and per kg sugar was selling at Tk 33-Tk 34 which was Tk 35-Tk 36 a week ago. In the past one week, traders said prices of coarse flour remained unchanged at their previous rates of Tk 39-Tk 40 per kg.
Prices of non-brand edible oil declined by Tk 1.0 to Tk 5.0 per kg in the city's retail markets. Loose edible oils including soybean oil and super palm oil, were selling at Tk 104-Tk 105 per kg and Tk 75-Tk 78 per kg respectively which was selling at Tk 105- Tk 108 per kg and Tk 78-Tk 80 per kg, traders said.
Per can (5 litres) oils was selling at Tk 520-Tk540 during the last week in the retail level.
Prices of onion, both local and imported were selling at Tk 32 per kg and Tk 26 per kg in the city's retail markets during the past one- week, remained unchanged from their previous rate.
Traders said prices of the finer variety of local lentil and imported Nepalese and Turkish varieties remained unchanged at their previous rates in the local markets. Local lentil was selling at Tk 110 per kg while imported at Tk 90 per kg.
According to traders, coarse varieties of rice, especially BR-28 and pari, were selling at Tk 39-Tk 41 per kg and Tk 35-Tk 36 per kg against Tk 38-Tk 39 per kg and Tk 32-Tk 34 per kg in the previous week. Minicate variety of rice was selling at Tk 40-Tk 42 per kg and nazirshail at Tk 36-Tk 48 per kg.
At wholesale level, the minicate variety of rice was sold at Tk 1450 -Tk 1500 per maund (37.300 kg) and the nazirshail variety of rice was sold at Tk 1450-Tk 1650 per maund during the last week, remaining unchanged at their previous rates.
Besides, price of BR-28, widely consumed by low-income people, was selling at Tk 1300-Tk 1320 per maund, remaining unchanged from the prices of the previous week at the wholesale level.
