Prices of coarse rice down, poultry birds, onion up

Prices of different varieties of coarse rice declined by Tk 1-Tk 2 per kg on an average at the retail level during the last week while prices of poultry birds and onion increased.
Besides, prices of vegetables came down slightly due to large supply of fresh winter vegetables to the retail markets in the city. Prices of other essential commodities, including edible oil remained almost unchanged in the city's kitchen markets during the past week, traders said Friday.
A salesman of the city's Shantinagar rice market said prices of different coarse varieties of rice declined by Tk 1 to Tk 2 per kg at the city's retail level although the price remained unchanged at the wholesale level.
In the retail market, coarse varieties of rice, especially BR-28 and 29 and pari, were selling at Tk 32-Tk34 per kg against Tk33-Tk 36 per kg in the previous week. Besides, the minicate variety of rice was selling at Tk 40-Tk 44 per kg and nazirshail at Tk 36-Tk 44 per kg remaining unchanged from their previous rates.
According to traders at the city's Babubazar and Nayabazar, prices of different fine and coarse varieties of rice remained unchanged from their previous rates at the wholesale level.
At the wholesale level, the minicate variety of rice was selling at Tk 1300-Tk 1450 per maund (37.300 kg) and the nazirshail variety at Tk 1200-Tk 1450 per maund, traders said.
BR-28 was being sold between Tk 1100 and Tk 1250 per maund while pari between Tk 1050 and Tk 1250 per maund at the wholesale level.
Prices of poultry birds increased by Tk 10 per kg during the last week and were selling at Tk 120 per kg at the retail level in the city. A dozen of eggs were selling between Tk 84 and Tk 90 remaining unchanged from their previous prices.
The market sources said prices of local onion increased by Tk 5 to Tk 6 per kg while imported ones rose by Tk 2-Tk 4 per kg at the retail level in the city due to shortage of supply.
Now, a kilo of local onion was selling between Tk 34 and Tk 36 per kg and imported Indian onion at Tk 28-Tk 30 per kg in the city's retail markets. Garlic was selling between Tk 34 and Tk 40 per kg.
Prices of vegetables declined by Tk 5 to Tk 8 per kg in the city's retail markets, traders in the city said Friday.
On Friday, prices of a number of vegetables including lady's finger, brinjal and cauliflower were Tk 28 per kg, Tk 30-Tk 32 per kg and Tk 22 per piece respectively, according to the traders in the city's retail markets.
Cucumber was being sold at Tk 35 per kg, tomato at Tk 80 per kg, potal at Tk 22-Tk 25, carrot Tk 30-Tk35, radish Tk 15-Tk 20, bitter gourd Tk 25 and potato Tk 15-Tk 16 per kg.
Green chill was selling at Tk 70-Tk 80 per kg on an average in the different retail level.
In the last one week, a kg of sugar sold between Tk 33 and Tk 35 remaining unchanged from its previous rate.
Non-brand edible oil including soybean oil and super palm oil were being sold at Tk 110 per kg and Tk 85 per kg at the retail level, remaining unchanged from their previous prices. During the last week, edible oil of different brands in five-litre cans was selling at Tk 520- Tk 530.
Traders said prices of the finer variety of local lentil and imported Nepalese and Turkish varieties remained unchanged at their previous rates in the local markets. Local lentil was selling at Tk 108-Tk 110 and imported lentil between Tk 88 and Tk 90 per kg.
Price of beef remained unchanged and a kilo of beef was selling at Tk 220. Mutton was selling between Tk 280 and Tk 350 per kg in the city's retail outlets.
