Prices of essentials rise in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ June 22: Price of essential commodities marked sharp rise in the local markets with the advent of the Holy Ramadan.
Prices of fish, meat, edible oil, pulse, spices and vegetables remained at their previous higher levels.
Reports say that the low income groups of landless peasants, day-labourers and rickshaw pullers are the worst sufferers. People cannot find out the reason of price-hike of essential commodities in this Holy month. According to the survey of the markets Sunday, prices of all types of vegetables including brinjal, potato, cucumber, green chilly and onion have also shat up. One kilogram of brinjal is being sold between Tk 60 to Tk 70, potato between Tk 26 to Tk 30, cucumber between Tk 50 to Tk 60, green chilly Tk 70 to Tk 80, onion between Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg. and ginger is being sold between Tk 180 to Tk 200.
Hilsa fish is being sold between Tk 1000 to Tk 1200 (medium size), Rohu is being sold between Tk 350 to Tk 400 (medium size) and Koi is being sold between Tk 300 to Tk 350 (medium size) per kg. Price of one kilogram beef varies from Tk 380 to about Tk 400 and one kilogram of broiler chicken various from Tk 160 to Tk 170 per kg. Local businessman Bimal Datta of Gopalganj Bazar told this correspondent, price of daily essentials rose up due to short of supply. But reliable sources said that scrupulous traders have been creating an artificial crisis in the local markets to make more profit.    alimuzzaman81@gmail.com
