Prices of essentials stable, some items high in city markets

The retail prices of the most of essentials including rice and vegetables have remained almost stable in the city markets while prices of some items such as onion, green chilli, cucumber and Hilsha fish have slightly increased.
A market report of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) said this in the city Thursday, reports BSS.
Besides, the prices of most of the vegetables came down further as the supply of the items continued to increase, the market report said.
The BDR report said the prices of coarse rice in different markets, including Kamalapur, New Market, Karwan Bazar, Kalyanpur, Kochukhet and Mohammadpur, ranged between Tk 22 and Tk 23 per kilogramme Wednesday.
Rice was being sold at Tk 23 at BDR-run open markets and Tk 19 at BDR-run sales centres on the day while in Kolkata per kg coarse rice is being sold at a price equivalent to Bangladesh Tk 21.42.
The price of one-kg packet of flour was between Tk 32 and Tk 33 in ordinary markets Wednesday while the price of the item was Tk 34 in BDR-run open markets and Tk 29 at BDR-run sales centres. In Kolkata, the flour is being sold for Tk 26.31 per kilogramme, the report said.
The price of imported lentil (mashur) is between Tk 58 and Tk 62 per kilogramme in ordinary markets, while it is being sold at Tk 62 in BDR-run open markets and Tk 58 at BDR-run sales centres. In Kolkata, the price of the lentil is Tk 62.60 per kilogramme.
Onion (imported) was sold at Tk 42 to Tk 44 per kilogramme in ordinary city markets while its price in Kolkata was Tk 33.57. Onion was being sold at Tk 48 per kilogramme in BDR-run open markets and Tk 35 at BDR-run sales centres.
The price of imported gram (chhola) was between Tk 48 and Tk 52 per kilogramme in different retail markets Wednesday while in Kolkata the item was being sold at Tk 54.38.
The item is being sold at Tk 50 in BDR-run open markets and Tk 52 at BDR-run sales centres.
Sugar is being sold at Tk 28 per kilogramme in ordinary markets compared to Tk 27.07 in Kolkata and Tk 28 in BDR-run open markets.
The price of green chili, however, is ranging from Tk 110 to Tk 120 per kilogramme in ordinary city markets. The item is sold at Tk 120 at BDR-run open markets. The price of green chili in Kolkata is equivalent to Tk 45.85.
Potato is being sold at Tk 19 to Tk 20 per kilogramme in all the ordinary markets. The price of potato in BDR-run open market is Tk 19 and at BDR sales centers Tk 18. In Kolkata, the price of the item is equivalent to Tk 15.78.
Soyabean oil is being sold at Tk 78 to Tk 80 per litre in ordinary markets, while it is available at Tk 79 in BDR-run open markets and Tk 73 at BDR-run sales centres. In Kolkata, the price of soybean oil is Tk 105.26 per litre.
Palm oil is being sold at Tk 72 to Tk 76 per litre in ordinary markets. In Kolkata, the price of palm oil is Tk 95.75 per litre.
The item is being sold at Tk 75 per kilogramme in BDR-run open markets, the report added.
