Prices of fish, vegetables on rise in Ctg market

CHITTAGONG, July 26: Prices of vegetables and fishes have increased 10 to 20 per cent over last week.

Trading sources said that with the enhanced price of the fuel oil, price of the essential items have also risen alarmingly.

Following abnormal price spiral of rice earlier, the very recent upward trend in the prices of fishes and vegetables has put the buyers into embarrassing position.

Cheapest fish Pangash has jumped to Tk 90 to Tk 100 per kilogramme (kg). Medium sized Hilsa is now being sold at Tk 380 per kg with a sudden rise by Tk 180 from the recent past.

Besides, the price of medium sized shrimp rose to Tk 250 per kg from its previous price of Tk 220 and the sellers are now realising Tk 390 to 400 per kg for Rupchanda (White).

Even Lotia fish, which the low income people need to buy, is now being sold at an enhanced rate of Tk 80 to 90 per kg.

Meanwhile, sky rocketing price is being witnessed in the vegetable markets. Due to inadequate supply, price of different vegetable items are on a rise, trading sources said.

Potato, ladies' finger and long bean are being sold at Tk 18, 22 and 28 per kg respectively. Price of patal and kakrol has jumped to Tk 22 and 24 per kg respectively.
