Prices of lentil, soybean oil down, onion up

Prices of lentil and soybean oil declined slightly in last seven days as the supply of those items increased in the market from import level, traders said.
Prices of onion increased further which traders attributed to shortage in supply and increase in transportation cost due to the blockade coupled with hartal period.
Prices of both bottled and loose soybean marked fall in the market in last seven days as the importers reduced the prices.
The edible oil importers fixed bottled soybean at Tk102 per litre recently which was earlier fixed at Tk105-106 per litre from Tk114-115 per litre.
Loose soybean oil price declined to Tk104-106 per kg in a week from Tk110-112 per kg.
Md Shafiqe, a grocer at Nowabganj Bazar in the city said price of Rupchada brand was fixed at Tk102 per litre (poly-pack) much earlier when other brands were Tk104-105 per litre.
All the companies have distributed new bottled oil with price at Tk102 per litre in last two days, he said.
He said price of loose soybean also declined by Tk4-5 per kg at Moulovibazar wholesale for last seven days.
President of Bangladesh Edible Oil Wholesale Merchant Association Alhaj Mohammad Golam Moula said that the importers have eased prices of both loose and bottled oil which helped us to refix the price.
Lentil prices declined by Tk4-5 per kg in a week and sold at Tk115-116 per kg (Imported Nepalese), Tk100-104 (Local) and Tk 88-90 (Local Broken) in the key kitchen markets.
Alhaj Md Shafi, president of Bangladesh Pulse Traders Association said that a good number of vehicles are entering the city from Chittagong Port amid the ongoing blockade which helped ease the price.  
Prices of both local and imported variety of onion increased further last week compared to its previous due to supply shortage and increase in transportation cost, said traders.
Onion of local variety (Murikata) sold at Tk42-46 per kg and imported Indian at Tk38-42 per kg on Friday---Tk2-4 rise in a week.
Narayan Chandra Saha, an importer and wholesaler at Shyambazar in the city said that harvesting of Murikata variety is in its last stage and the storable onion variety will arrive in the market from last week of February.
