BRAHMANBARIA, Sept 25: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders have increased by 25 per cent to 30 per cent within a month in the local markets, sources said.
Traders blamed the shortage of supply and increase of transportation cost for the unabated price hike.
At present, Basundhara LPG is being sold at TK 900 per 12.5-kilogram cylinder, Klinhit at TK 930 and Jamuna at TK 890 which were sold at TK 750, TK 780 and TK 765 respectively in the last month.
Local people said legal action must be taken against unscrupulous traders for violating their respective company prices.
LPG traders of the town claimed that supply of gas cylinders were less than 50 per cent of the market demand and they had to collect the cylinders from different sources at exorbitant prices.
Conscious people further said if strict measures are not taken immediately, the price of per cylinder would exceed TK 1000 before the holy Eid festival.
