Prices of many items see declining trend

Prices of most of the commodities showed a declining trend on Friday compared to that of its previous week after the end of month-long Ramadan when prices traditionally mark unusual rise.
Prices of fish, meat, vegetables showed a down-ward trend in last seven days much to the relief of common masses.
However, the kitchen markets are yet to be crowded as the majority of city dwellers are still out of the city to enjoy Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Prices of brinjal, the much sought-after item during the Ramadan dipped to Tk25-35 per kg on Friday which was Tk70-100 per kg during the holy month of fasting.
Chilli prices also declined to Tk50-60 per kg from Tk140-160 per kg ten days back.
Most of other vegetables witnessed a reduction of Tk5-15 in last seven days.
Only bitter gourd and teasle gourd prices were static at Tk55-60 and Tk40-45 per kg respectively.
Md Kurban Ali, a vegetable vendor at Nowabganj Bazar in the city said prices marked a significant fall in the wholesales.
He said the number of customers were also lesser which is creating a stockpile in the evening.
"The condition will remain unchanged till Sunday," he said.
Prices of beef which was sold at Tk400-450 per kg in different places in the capital ahead of Eid declined to Tk370-380 per kg.
Mutton was sold at Tk540-550 per kg---a Tk20-30 decline in a week.
Chicken (broiler) was sold at Tk150-155 which was Tk165-170 per kg a week back.
Prices of fish witnessed a significant plunge in last seven days.
Shrimp, golsha, tengra, batashi, aair, shing, magur, mola, dhela, kachki prices showed a Tk50-100 decline at per kg.
Hilsa prices also witnessed a significant plunge during the period.
Big sized hilsa (more than 900 gram) were very rare and was sold at Tk1500 per piece (minimum)---Tk300-400 reduction in last five days.
A medium sized hilsa (700-800 gram) was sold at Tk650-700---Tk300-350 decline in last six days.
Prices of small sized hilsa also showed a Tk350-400 decline at per kg and sold at Tk450-600 per kg at different city markets on the day.
Onion prices were static at Tk48-50(local) and Tk38-42 (imported) per kg on Friday.
