Prices of meat up, onion, chilli cheaper

Prices of meat including beef, mutton and chicken, milk and salt maintained an upward trend while onion and green chilli became cheaper over the past one week in the city's retail markets, traders said Friday.
Besides, prices of other commodities, including rice, remained mostly unchanged in the city markets.
Beef was selling at Tk 200- 220 per kg and mutton at Tk 280- Tk 350 per kg. Price of poultry birds increased by Tk 5.0 per kg and was selling between Tk120 and Tk125 against the previous rate of Tk 115.
Sources said price of milk rose by Tk 2.0-Tk 3.0 per litre after the dairy farms increased prices of their products. Now one litre of milk (milkvita) was selling at Tk 48 against Tk 45 last week.
Prices of salt maintained an upward trend over the last two weeks because of scanty supply. Price of one kg ordinary salt was Tk 13 two weeks back, but it was being sold at Tk 16 while a kg of brand salt was selling at Tk 18 in the city markets.
Traders at the retail markets said local onion was selling at Tk 28 -Tk 30 per kg. Imported Indian onion was selling at Tk 18-Tk 20 per kg against Tk 22 previously. Local garlic was selling at Tk 36-Tk 40 per kg.
Price of green chilli came down and was selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 per kg at the retail level.
During the last one week prices of different varieties of rice remained stable at wholesale and retail levels.
A trader in the city's Badamtoli wholesale market said demand for rice normally falls during the month of Ramadan. Supply of rice in the market is also satisfactory, he added.
Lata variety was selling at Tk 35-Tk 38 per kg, pari at Tk 35-Tk36, miniket Tk 42-Tk 43 while different variety of najirshail at Tk 37-48 per kg.
Imported lentils were selling at Tk 96-Tk 98 per kg and local lentil at Tk 108 per kg, which was remained unchanged from their previous rates.
Market sources said the prices of both non-brand and brand edible oil continue to record a downward trend and non-brand soybean oil was selling at Tk 108 per kg and super palm oil was selling at Tk 80 per kg in the city markets
The traders said the price of edible oil might continue to decrease in the coming days as in the recent months the price of all types of edible oil fell in international markets.
Prices of some vegetables, including tomato and brinjal fell slightly because of their adequate supply. Potato was selling at Tk 16, cucumber at Tk 32, tomato at Tk 60, brinjal at Tk 42 per kg and ladies finger at Tk 28 per kg.
A dozen of eggs was being sold at Tk 66. Flour was selling at Tk 45 per kg and course flour (atta) at Tk 74 per 2 kg pack in the city's local markets.
