Prices of most commodities more or less unchanged

The ensuing fiscal year's budget unveiled Thursday is yet to make any impact on the city's kitchen market as the prices of most of the commodities remained more or less unchanged.
Although the price of some commodities such as rice witnessed an upward trend, it was increasing for last two weeks, rice traders at Kawran Bazar told the FE Friday.
Prices of rice and imported garlic and ginger witnessed an upward trend while sugar, onion, lentil and edible oil remained steady in the city's kitchen markets last week, traders said.
Rice traders claimed that high prices of paddy were responsible for the recent hike of rice price. They blamed millers' competition for buying paddy which raised the prices of rice.
Minicate was selling at Tk 44 per kg, up by Tk 4.0 per kg while Nazirshail remained steady at Tk 38-Tk 44 per kg at the retail level.
Coarse varieties were up by Tk 2- Tk 3 per kg. IRRI was selling at Tk 30 per kg, Pari at Tk 33 per kg and BR-28 at Tk 35 per kg at the retail level last week.
Prices of fish except hilsa came down in the city's kitchen markets, market sources said.
A pair of small-size hilsa was selling at Tk 1000- Tk 1200 which was Tk 800-Tk 1000 a week ago.
Shrimp was steady at Tk 400-Tk 450 per kg a week ago.
'Ruhi' was selling at Tk 180- Tk 200, down from Tk 200-Tk 250 per kg and 'katla' at Tk 200 per kg against Tk 220 per kg a week ago.
'Pangas' was selling at Tk 80-Tk 90 per kg against Tk 100-Tk 110 per kg a week earlier.
Small fish 'telapia' was priced at Tk 130-Tk 150, 'puti' at Tk 200-Tk 300 and 'tengra' at Tk 300-Tk 330 a kg on an average.
On the other hand, some vegetables like tomato was selling at previous high prices mainly due to off-season supply shortage, traders said.
Tomato sold at Tk 32 per kg.
However, potato remained steady and was selling at Tk 12 per kg.
Prices of other vegetables remained more or less steady last week. Long bean (borboty) was selling at Tk 18-20 per kg, brinjal at Tk 28-Tk 30 per kg, okra at Tk 20 per kg, potal at Tk 16-Tk 18 per kg and a medium size gourd at Tk 20-25 last week.
Sugar was selling between Tk 42-Tk 44 per kg, unchanged from the previous week.
The prices of spices were stable last week as prices of most of the spices remained steady.
Local garlic was selling at Tk 110 per kg while the imported variety was up by Tk 10 per kg selling at Tk 130 per kg.
Traders said, prices of imported ginger also witnessed an upward trend and it was selling at Tk 110 per kg, up from Tk 100 per kg in the previous week.
Local lentil was selling at Tk 110 per kg and the imported variety ranged between Tk 80 and Tk 90 per kg.
Local onion was selling at Tk 20 per kg while the imported variety at Tk 16- Tk 18 per kg.
The price of edible oil also remained unchanged at the retail level.
The Rupchanda brand edible oil in five-litre container was selling at Tk 430, Fresh at Tk 420 and Teer at Tk 420 last week.
The prices of non-brand edible oil such as palm oil, super palm oiland soybean oil ranged between Tk 75 and Tk 90 per litre.
The price of a dozen red farm eggs was Tk 75, white eggs Tk 69 and local eggs Tk 90.
A medium-size poultry bird was selling at Tk 145 per kg. Beef and mutton were Tk 250-Tk 260 per kg and Tk 350-Tk 360 per kg respectively.
