Prices of onion, brinjal increase further in city markets

Prices of onion and brinjal increased further and the prices of hilsa fish declined while the prices of other essential commodities remained unchanged in the city markets over the past week.
During the last week, prices of local variety of onion were Tk 42-Tk44 per kg compared with its previous rates at Tk 40-Tk 42 per kg and its imported variety was selling at Tk36-Tk38 per kg compared with its previous rates at Tk 34-Tk 36 per kg.
In the last week, brinjal was selling at Tk 50-Tk56 per kg compared with its previous rates at Tk 48-Tk 50 per kg.
Vegetable vendors said the prices of brinjal have gone up further in the city markets mainly due to higher demand during the month of Ramadan.
During the last week a medium-size hilsa fish was selling at Tk 250-Tk300 compared with its previous rates at Tk 350-Tk 400 per piece.
Fishsellers at the city's kitchen markets said the local consumers have been enjoying the benefit of ban on export of hilsa as the prices are coming down gradually.
During the last week at the wholesale level prices of soybean oil remained unchanged at Tk 2810-Tk 2815 per maund, super palm oil at Tk 2725-Tk 2730 per maund and the palm oil at Tk 2670-Tk 2680 per maund.
At the retail level, prices of canned edible oil of different brands of five litres remained unchanged at Tk 395-Tk 400. At the retail level, prices of one litre can of edible oil remained unchanged at Tk 84-Tk 86 per kg.
During the last week, at the wholesale level, prices of Indian variety of Swarna and local Paari remained unchanged at Tk 900-Tk 910 per maund, Lata variety at Tk 950-Tk 960 per maund and IRRI variety at Tk 850 per maund.
In the past week, prices of Nazirshail from Savar remained unchanged at Tk 1000 per maund, Nazirshail from North Bengal at Tk 1200 per maund and Minicate variety at Tk 1080-Tk 1100 per maund, traders said.
At the retail level, prices of fine varieties of rice remained unchanged at Tk 29-Tk 32 per kg and the coarse varieties of rice at Tk 24-Tk 25 per kg, traders said.
At the wholesale level sugar price remained unchanged at Tk 975 per maund and at the retail level it was unchanged at Tk 28-Tk 30 per kg.
During the last week prices of green chilli remained unchanged at Tk 80-Tk 100 per kg. Per four pieces of lemon remained unchanged at Tk 8.0-Tk 10, traders said.
Prices of fine variety of lentil remained unchanged at Tk 76-Tk 80 per kg and its Turkish variety at Tk 64-Tk 66 per kg. Prices of 'moong' pulse remained unchanged at Tk 76-Tk 78 per kg, traders said.
Potato price remained unchanged in the city markets at Tk 20-Tk 21 per kg over the past week and bitter gourd at Tk 34-Tk 36 per kg.
Eggs were selling at Tk 60 per dozen, unchanged from the previous week at the retail level. During the last week price of ginger remained unchanged at Tk 46-Tk 50 per kg.
During the last week at the retail level prices of one kilogram (kg) of packaged coarse flour remained unchanged at Tk 34 per kg.
In the last week, prices of poultry birds remained unchanged at Tk 90-Tk 100 per kg and beef at Tk 180 per kg.
Mutton was selling at Tk 220-Tk 230 per kg, unchanged from the previous week. Traders said prices of refined salt remained unchanged at Tk 16 per kg.
