Thursday, 29 November 2007

RANGPUR, Nov 28 (BSS): Market prices of onion marked a sharp fall by over 50 per cent within a span of only five days everywhere in the northern districts of the country, market sources said.
The sources said the consumers had been purchasing imported Indian onion at the rate of Tk 55 to 58 per kg for quite a long time till Saturday last and the same was now being sold at Tk 25 to Tk 27 per kg in the local markets.
Onion retailers and wholesalers today told the news agency that the huge supplies of imported Indian onions to the local markets and appearance of the early variety of the locally produced onions were the reasons behind the sharp fall in onion prices and the trends would continue further.
