Prices of onion, vegetables decline

Prices of onion and a few vegetables declined on Friday compared to those of the previous week.
Prices of loose soybean oil and super palm have increased while those of poultry meat and some varieties of fish declined slightly over last seven days, traders said.
Price of bottled soybean oil price has been re-fixed by the refiners at Tk 104-105 per litre from Tk 113-115 earlier but loose soybean oil prices increased by Tk 6-8 at per kg. Loose soybean is usually sold in kg. Loose soybean sold at Tk 98-102 per kg on Friday which was Tk 92-94 a week back at retail markets.
Md Abu Hanif, a grocer at Bonolota Kitchen Market under New Market area, told the FE that the price jumped up by Tk 6-8 per kg at Moulvibazar.
"With decline in the prices of bottled soybean, the price of loose form of oil has increased significantly," he said.
A trader at Moulvibazar said big five companies supply bottled and loose soybean oil. "They have reduced bottled soybean prices but recovered it by raising the price of loose form of soybean," he said.
He informed that price of super palm also increased by Tk 1.5-2.0 per kg.
However, the ministry of commerce has recently fixed soybean oil price (bottled) at Tk 102 per litre, loose soybean at Tk 90 at retail level.
Retailers said the refiners were yet to implement the government decision properly.
Prices of poultry meat (farm) reduced by Tk 5 per kg in a week and sold at Tk 120-125 per kg on Friday.
Prices of shrimp, golsha, mola, magur, shing, koi declined by Tk 50-60 per kg in a week. Golsha fish sold at Tk 350-450 per kg based on different sizes.
Onion prices plunged by Tk 2-4 per kg in last seven days. Newly harvested local variety of onion sold at Tk 28-30 per kg, local crop of last season at Tk 35-36 and imported (Indian and Burmese) at Tk 28-34 per kg on Friday.
Prices of a few seasonal vegetables reduced slightly in a week while most of other essentials were static on Friday compared to the previous week's prices.
