Prices of rice, edible oil shoot up even after Eid

Prices of rice and edible oil further shot up while that of onion declined in the city's kitchen markets, on Friday.
Prices of both fine and coarse rice increased by Tk 1-2 per kg after the Eid festival due to sudden rise in transportation cost, rice traders claimed. But the retailers and wholesalers blamed the millers saying the millers were hoarding rice.
Retailers were selling Minicate rice at Tk 42-43 per kg which was Tk 40-41 per kg earlier and Nazirshail at Tk 44-48 per kg against Tk 42-48 per kg in the week before.
Paizam was selling at Tk 36-38 per kg, Lata at Tk 40 per kg, BR 28 at Tk 38 per kg and IRRI at Tk 33 per kg last week, they added.
Unpacked soybean oil prices were up by Tk 5-6 per litre again after the Eid festival.
Retailers were selling unpacked soybean at Tk 105-106 per litre against Tk 100 per litre earlier, and palm oil at Tk 88-90 per litre last week.
But the price of brand edible oil in five-litre containers remained steady. Rupchanda was selling at Tk 490 while other brands such as Teer, Fresh and ACI ranged between Tk 464 and Tk 474.
Packed ata (flour) was sold at Tk 32-33 per kg and Maida at Tk 35-36 per kg last week.
Prices of both local and imported onion witnessed a downward trend in the city's kitchen markets.
Price of imported Indian onion was Tk 35-44 per kg against Tk 40-45 per kg earlier and the local one was selling at Tk 33-40 per kg against Tk 42-45 per kg in the week before.
Sugar was selling at Tk 55 per kg at the retailers' level in the city.
Local lentil was selling between Tk 105 and Tk 110 per kg depending on quality.
Prices of ginger and garlic also maintained the same trend and these were selling at Tk 120-180 per kg and Tk 150-200 per kg respectively.
Prices of fish remained more or less same as in the week before in the city, traders said.
A pair of medium-size hilsha was selling at Tk 800-1000 and 'ruhi' was selling at Tk 240-260 per kg.
Shrimp was selling at Tk 450-500 per kg and the small variety at Tk 350 per kg. Pangas was selling at Tk 80-100 per kg, hybrid koi at Tk 180 per kg.
Traders were also selling vegetables at high rates though the supply of winter vegetables was moderate.
Newly arrived potato was selling at Tk 40-60 per kg, bean at Tk 30-40 per kg, tomato at Tk 60 per kg, cucumber at Tk 25-30 per kg, green chilli at Tk 50 per kg, brinjal at Tk 35 per kg and lady's finger at Tk 30-35 per kg.
Traders were selling beef at Tk 250-260 per kg and mutton at Tk 400-450 per kg.
Prices of poultry birds declined by Tk 10-15 per kg and those were selling at Tk 90-100 per kg.
