Prices of rice, fish, vegetables up in the city's kitchen markets

Prices of rice, fish and vegetables were up while that of sugar, oil and lentil remained steady in the city's kitchen markets, traders said Friday.
Prices of coarse varieties of rice witnessed an upward trend and increased by Tk 1- Tk 2 per kg at the retail level. Traders blamed the millers saying they were hoarding rice creating an artificial crisis in the market.
IRRI was selling at Tk 30- Tk 32 per kg, Pari at Tk 33 - Tk 35 per kg, BR-28 at Tk 34- Tk 36 per kg and Lata at Tk 35 per kg at the retail level last week.
Minicate was selling at Tk 40- Tk 42 per kg and Nazirshail at Tk 42-Tk 46 per kg at the retail level.
Prices of fish increased in the city's kitchen markets, market sources said adding shortage of supply due to rainfall is responsible for the high prices of the item.
A medium-sized hilsa fish was selling at Tk 900 against the previous week's price of Tk 500- Tk 550.
Shrimp was selling at Tk 450- Tk 600 per kg.
'Ruhi' was selling at Tk 200 per kg which was at Tk 180 per kg earlier, 'katla' at Tk 200 per kg against Tk 160 per kg in the previous week, 'Pangas' at Tk 100 per kg, up by Tk 10 , 'Silver Carp' at Tk 200 per kg and 'Mrigel' at Tk 170 per kg in the city's kitchen markets.
Small fish 'telapia' was priced at Tk 130-Tk 150, 'puti' at Tk 200-Tk 300 and 'Tengra' at Tk 300-Tk 330 a kg on an average.
Traders said, prices of imported ginger declined by Tk 2.0 and was selling at Tk 110 per kg last week.
Local garlic was selling at Tk 110 per kg while the imported variety ranged between Tk 125 and Tk 130 per kg.
Sugar was selling between Tk 44 and Tk 54 per kg last week.
Local lentil was selling at Tk 106-Tk 108 per kg and the imported variety ranged between Tk 90 and Tk 100 per kg.
Local onion was selling at Tk 22 per kg and the imported variety at Tk 18- Tk 20 per kg.
The prices of brand edible oil in five-litre containers remained the same as in the previous week. Rupchanda oil was selling at Tk 430, Teer at Tk 420, ACI and Fresh at Tk 415 last week.
The prices of non-brand edible oil such as palm oil, super palm oil and soybean oil remained steady and ranged between Tk 78 and Tk 82 per litre.
Prices of vegetables also witnessed an upward trend in the city's kitchen markets.
High prices of tomato continued mainly due to off-season supply shortage and it was selling at Tk 60 per kg which was Tk 45 per kg in the previous week, traders said.
However, potato remained steady and was selling at Tk 12 per kg.
Prices of other vegetables also were up last week. Long bean (borboty) was selling at Tk 18-20 per kg, brinjal at Tk 32 per kg, okra at Tk 30 per kg, potal at Tk 20 per kg, papaya at Tk 30 per kg and a medium size gourd at Tk 20-25 last week.
Green chili was selling at Tk 40 per kg, market sources said.
The price of a dozen red farm eggs was Tk 69, white eggs were selling at Tk 69 and local eggs at Tk 90 per dozen.
Prices of poultry bird were Tk 145per kg while that of beef and mutton ranged between Tk 250-Tk 260 per kg and Tk 350-Tk 360 per kg respectively.
