Prices of rice, onion up as lentil, potato fall

Prices of rice and onion went up further while those of lentil and potato fell, according to sources at different markets in the city.
Prices of rice increased by Tk 3-Tk 4 per kg at the retail level, the sources said.
The minicate rice was selling at Tk 38 per kg which was Tk 35-Tk 36 per kg last week, Nazirshail at Tk 42 to Tk 48 per kg which was Tk 39-Tk 46 per kg last week.
Coarse rice including BR-28 was selling at Tk 34 per kg which was Tk 30 per kg. Pari was selling at Tk 30-TK 31 against Tk 28 and IRRI at Tk 25-Tk 26 against Tk 23 per kg on an average.
The prices of onion were also up by Tk 1-2 per kg. The Indian variety was selling at Tk 36 per kg up from Tk 35 per kg and the local variety at Tk 40 per kg up from Tk 38 per kg last week.
The price of local lentil decreased and it was selling at Tk 130 per kg which was Tk 140 per kg last week. The imported Indian, Nepalese and Turkish varieties were selling at Tk 105 against the earlier price of Tk 110 per kg.
Potato was selling at Tk 22 per kg down from Tk 25 per kg while the price of fresh potato was steady at Tk 25-Tk 26 per kg.
The Rupchanda brand edible oil in five-litre can was selling at Tk 455, Teer at Tk 448 and Dada at Tk 430 on an average.
Non-brand edible oil such as palm oil, super palm and soybean was selling at Tk 75-Tk 88 per litre.
At the retail level the price of garlic was steady. The local garlic was selling at Tk 120 per kg and the imported variety at Tk 90 per kg.
The local ginger was selling at Tk 80 per kg and the imported one was available at Tk 70 per kg.
However, both brand and non-brand sugar was steady at Tk 52 a kg at the retail level in the capital.
The price of every four red farm eggs was Tk 23 while the local eggs were stable at Tk 30.
Prices of all the vegetable items witnessed the same trend in the city's kitchen markets.
The green chili was selling at Tk 28-Tk 32 per kg. Brinjal was selling at Tk 20-Tk 22 a kg, carrot at Tk 24 per kg, 'Potol' at Tk 30, 'Khirai', a variety of small cucumber, at Tk 20, papaya at Tk 12-Tk 16, bean at Tk 24-Tk 26, bitter gourd Tk 30 per kg, a medium-size cauliflower at Tk 18-Tk Tk 20, a medium-size cabbage at Tk 15 to Tk 20 and a medium-size gourd at Tk 20-Tk 25.
A pair of medium-size Hilsha fishes were selling at Tk 600-Tk 700.
However, 'Pangas' was steady at Tk 90-Tk 100, 'Katla' at Tk 200, 'Poya' at Tk 180, 'Ruhi' at Tk 200 per kg, 'Kachki' and 'Telapia' at Tk 80-Tk 100 per kg.
Local fishes like 'Puti' were selling at Tk 100 a kg, 'Tangra' at Tk 150 and 'Magur' at Tk 500-Tk 600 a kg on an average.
